Changes & Ideas to improve

• 2025-07-10: Removed diagonal scoring and animation for a cleaner, more balanced experience.
• 2025-07-13: Removed theme idea - too hard. Adapted from random letter pool generated in favour of theme words and based on letter frequency to curated pools version.
• 2025-07-16: Devised code to generate complete grids - all 8 words. Average frequency of word use = difficulty rating 1 = rare to 7 = common.
• 2025-07-16:Steve's idea - evolved. Instead of aiming to get a high score, aim to solve the grid. Allow user to access all tiles and add in another 8 (25 in total). 8 link to a cryptic style clue. User can drop letter tiles in both grid and solution. Hints available eg checks, reveals, etc. More hints = lower score. Maybe make two versions points (this one) v cryptic (future plan)
• 2025-07-18:Tried to import a leaderboard function but didn't work. Not sure about this. Would need a backend and I am struggling to integrate this with neocities. Am pausing it for now.
• 2025-07-18:Considered adding drag n drop as well as click to place. Decided to drop it for now as not needed.
• 2025-07-18:Changed scoring rating to be out of 10 based on the 1-7 scale of commonly used words.
• 2025-07-20:Decided to reduce help feature to just question marks with pop ups rather than an animated scoring routine.
• 2025-07-29:Created the puzzle version. Decided not to use the cryptic clue muddler feature as puzzle already too hard.

About this game

This game was created by Jason French in July 2025. I used AI to help me learn how to code. I was inspired by games I have played like Scrabble and crosswords and also by a game I saw playtesting in a Cambridge pub!
